1. Why was Crossroads started?
We desire to help people discover God and His love and to help them grow in their Christian faith. More specifically, we desire to:
Help others know Christ personally
Learn more about God’s ways
Share life’s struggles and victories
Express our joyful response to God
Learn to benefit from His resources
Provide opportunities for serving
-
-
- We are located near the intersection of two major highways - I-390 and I-590. This makes it relatively convenient to most areas in Rochester. But, even more so, we are reaching people who are at the crossroads of their life spiritually.
3. What denomination is CBF?
CBF is non-denominational, independent. We are not tied to any denomination, but do have associations with several other churches in this area. (GRAE, etc)
4. Can you describe your Sunday services?
Fellowship Bible Hour (10:00 a.m.)
This is our "bread and butter" ministry - one hour of music, praise and Bible-centered, relevant preaching. We show people how knowing God makes a real difference in their lives through the week. And you can enjoy relaxed conversation before and after the service with refreshments.
Lord’s Supper (9:00 a.m.)
This is the heart of CBF for those who are already followers of Jesus Christ. One hour each Sunday morning is set aside to worship the Lord in spontaneous prayer, scripture reading, singing to the Lord and celebrating communion.
- 5. What are Small Groups?
-
- (AKA "Home Groups") Home groups are the core of our ministry at CBF. Each week, various gatherings of 3-15 people meet in homes where each person can accept, encourage and support one another through Bible study, caring relationships and outreach to others. God’s word is relevantly applied to the issues that concern you. Our goal is to start many of these groups in various geographic areas in the Rochester area.
-
- 6. Do you provide anything for those who want more of a challenge?
-
- Discipleship Training
Christ called people to be "disciples". We have woven discipleship concepts throughout our ministry. In particular, we encourage people to be involved in one-on-one discipleship, where growth and spiritual maturity is nurtured on an individual basis. Sometimes, this is accomplished through mutual accountability, sometimes through mentoring and sometimes through hands on training.
Servants’ Study Group (SSG)
SSG is for those who would like more intensive study of the Bible and spiritual principles of ministry and life. These are conducted in a classroom setting. See the Web Calendar or Servants’ Study Group (SSG) page for details of upcoming sessions.
- 7. What ministry do you have for my children?
-
- We provide quality child care & teaching at most events, so our young families can take full advantage of our ministries.
Nursery (both Sunday services)
Of utmost concern to young families is a quality, clean nursery. Capable volunteers look after your infants while you enjoy God’s word and fellowship.
Sunday School (10:00 a.m.)
Our quality children’s program provides excellent teaching and training of our children from toddlers and up. Our kids really look forward it.
Youth Group
We have regular youth activities for our teens and older pre-teens to provide fun, wholesome activities, and a time for spiritual growing. This is a great opportunity for our young people to invite friends as well.
Summer Camp
For our children, the Sunday School provides various sponsorships to help with the cost of attending a Christian summer camp in the Southern Tier- Camp Li-Lo-Li.
As we grow, we will be adding additional ministries for our youth.
-
- 8. Who is the Pastor? Who can I go to for spiritual needs?
Jesus Christ is "The Pastor" - the chief shepherd of our church, with several "pastors" on the human level. We believe in "team pastoral ministry". The elders have responsibility for the overall ministry of CBF.
Several gifted individuals share in the preaching, pastoral visitation and counseling as God has enabled them.
In addition, our small groups are designed to meet many basic pastoral needs, where we all grow in our ability to minister to each other.
9. What about your outreach?
What about your outreach? Our goal is to reach out to those who don’t have a church home, and to those seeking to find out more about Jesus Christ. Do you have someone you want to introduce to the Lord? One of our many outreach events may be just the thing, like a games night, lunch time seminar or picnic. Other activities include mass mailings, radio advertisements, handing out free copies of the Jesus Video, etc. We want to reach many people in our community who have not yet come to Christ.
10. When do you take the offering?
You are our guest and your visit is "on us". We feel God will provide for our operating and ministry expenses as He moves in people who are committed to our church. Therefore, we don’t take an offering at our services. A simple unmarked box sits on the information table for those who wish to donate to the ministry of CBF.
11. What other ministries do you offer?
Music & Drama
Sunday mornings provide opportunities for those artistically inclined to use their gifts in music or drama. Our "praise band" leads in contemporary praise and worship music. And for those with a dramatic flair, we often have skits to fit in with the messages as well as plays for special times of the year.
Retreats
Need a time to get away from it all and get to know the people at CBF better? From time to time, we have retreats to provide special teaching, spiritual ministry and fellowship.
Helping Ministries
For those gifted in the area of helps and support, there are setup and takedown on Sunday mornings, refreshments, and many other opportunities for lending a helping hand. This is not just work, but a great opportunity to get to know others and serve together.
E-Med(itations)

- 12. What about Communications?
-
- The "Crossroads" e-post is published weekly with news related to our ministry. Just Subscribe to epost to receive these emails. Our weekly bulletin gives the late "breaking" announcements.
-
- 13. How can I find out more?
-
- The "On Ramp" is for you. This is an introductory series for "inquirers" who would like to check us out. These are announced well ahead of time.
-
- 14. Can you tell me a short history of CBF?
-
- After much prayer and the leading of God in the spring and summer of 1995, a group of 8 Christians committed to "planting" a new church. This was followed by an extended time of planning, which culminated in the first private worship meeting in February of 1996. Much "groundwork" was laid through extensive study of the scriptures and consultations, with our "Grand Opening" taking place on Easter Sunday of 1997. At that time, our outreach began in full force. Since then we have been encouraged by God’s blessing and the people he has brought to us.
