POINT TO PONDER: It takes time.
REFLECT: How did today's reading impact you?
"I am sure that God who began the good work within you
will keep right on helping you grow in His grace until
His take within you is finally finished on that day when
Jesus Christ returns." (Philippians 1:6 - Living Bible)
There are no shortcuts to maturity. The development of Christ-like character cannot be rushed. We live in a fast-paced world. Many of us don't like to wait- whether in a grocery line, a red light, or waiting for an answered prayer. We want things to happen now. Although we can be concerned with how fast we grow, God is concerned with how strong we grow. Why does it take so long?
  1. We're slow learners.
  2. We have a lot to unlearn.
  3. Habits take time to develop.
God is at work in us, at His pace. He is never rushed! We need to encourage each other not to get discouraged, but to remember God is working in our lives even when we don't feel it. A practical piece of advice is to keep a journal of things we have learned-- Spiritual Victories. What has God taught you today, about Himself? Write it down... A mushroom can be made overnight, but a giant Oak tree takes 100 years. Which do you want to resemble? Slow and stead in God's timing... OAK-kay?
PRAYER:
"Gracious Father, I want Your timetable, even if it means to wait. I trust that You are doing the work, conforming me into the images of Your Son. Help me today to make right choices and practice what pleases You. Amen
