POINT TO PONDER:This world is not my home.
REFLECT: How did today's reading impact you?
Life on earth is a temporary assignment. To make the best use of my life, I must never forget two truths:
1- Compared with eternity, life is extremely brief.
2- Earth is only my temporary residence.
"LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days
are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away." (Pslams 39:4 - New Living Translation)

As the reading today compared life to living in a foreign country, it brought back vivid memories of our months spent in Colombia, South America while we adopted two of our children. As time wore on, we became more comfortable in the surroundings, and a favorite past-time was to walk around the beautiful shopping malls in Bogota. Shopping is dangerous, because you're bombarded with media messages intended to make you feel empty unless you walk out with their item in your bag. But we kept a more important perspective, if it couldn't fit in my (already full) suitcase, it wasn't coming home.
"Those in frequent contact with the things of the world should make good use of them
without becoming attached to them, for this world and all it contains will pass away."
       (I Cor 7:31 - NLT)

"Compared with other centuries, life has never been easier for much of the Western world. We are constantly entertained, amused and catered to. With all the fascinating attractions, mesmerizing media, and enjoyable experiences available today, it's easy to forget that the pursuit of happiness is not what life is about. Only as we remember that life is a test, a trust, and a temporary assignment will the appeal of these things lose their grip on our lives. We are preparing for something even better!"
PRAYER:
"Gracious Father, remind me today that this world is not my home. Teach me to have Your perspective, and to travel lightly so that I can hold onto things that will last. Amen"
FOR MY CONSIDERATION:
Since my life on earth is only a temporary residence, how should that change the way I live today?
This week's Memory verse:
"For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible...
everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him" (Colossians 1:16 - The Message)
